Anita Jones Receives 13-Year Sentence for Stabbing Husband at Johns Hopkins Hospital

BALTIMORE — Anita Nicole Jones has been sentenced to 13 years in prison following her conviction for the fatal stabbing of her estranged husband, Christopher Yancey, Sr., inside a room at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office reported that Jones was found guilty of manslaughter and carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure in January. The incident occurred in October 2017 while the couple was at the hospital for their son’s emergency surgery.

According to officials, the stabbing took place shortly after 12:45 p.m. in the hospital's intensive care unit. Jones reportedly exited the room and informed hospital staff that Yancey had cut himself. However, medical personnel discovered Yancey with two stab wounds to his neck, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

During the investigation, Jones claimed that the couple had engaged in a verbal dispute, but she did not witness Yancey inflicting the injury on himself. Security footage later revealed her disposing of an object in a garbage can outside the hospital.

Additionally, a recorded jail call prior to the stabbing captured Jones expressing her frustrations towards Yancey and indicating her intent to harm him, according to the state's attorney's office.

Family members of Yancey noted that the couple had been involved in a heated argument at the hospital a week before the stabbing, which resulted in both being asked to leave the premises. Despite living separately, Jones and Yancey were still legally married at the time and shared six children.
