Authorities Identify Deceased Suspect and Officers in Northwest Baltimore Shooting

The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID) has confirmed the identity of the deceased suspect in a police-involved shooting that occurred in northwest Baltimore early Sunday morning.

The individual who died has been identified as 42-year-old Maurice Daniels from Millersville.

The officers involved in the incident, all of whom are part of the Operations Bureau, have also been named.

The shooting took place just before 1:45 a.m. on July 5 near the Walbrook Junction Shopping Center, specifically at the intersection of Denison Street and Clifton Avenue.

According to reports, Baltimore Police's helicopter Foxtrot located a stolen vehicle linked to a carjacking in Baltimore County around 1:30 a.m. Officers followed the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes before it stopped in the 3300 block of Clifton Avenue.

Upon stopping, the driver initially opened the vehicle door but quickly retreated inside. Officers attempted to remove him from the vehicle, but he locked the doors and refused to exit.

As an officer prepared to break a window to gain access, another officer observed what appeared to be a firearm inside the vehicle. Following this, multiple officers discharged their weapons, striking the driver.

Emergency medical assistance was rendered immediately, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.

Investigators recovered a replica BB gun from the vehicle. In accordance with protocol, all officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.

The IID is actively seeking information from the public and encourages anyone with relevant details or video evidence to contact them at 410-576-7070 or via email at [email protected].
