Baltimore City Partners with Community to Address Youth Violence Before Spring Break

BALTIMORE — The Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) is taking proactive measures to combat youth violence as spring break approaches. Mayor Brandon Scott announced on Friday that the city is mobilizing its community violence intervention partners to provide outreach and support from March 27 until Labor Day weekend.

During this period, community partners will focus on areas where young people are likely to gather, particularly on weekends and holiday evenings. The initiative aims to foster safe environments for youth and reduce the potential for violence.

“Keeping young people safe is a community effort,” Mayor Scott stated in a press release. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between city government, public safety agencies, parents, and families in ensuring the safety of teenagers.

City staff will prioritize building relationships with youth, engaging in proactive conflict de-escalation, and connecting young individuals with necessary services. The mayor's office has also partnered with various organizations to create engaging programming for the upcoming spring and summer months.

In addition to outreach efforts, the city is organizing a Spring Break Camp, which has already attracted over 380 participants across 25 recreation centers.

Officials remind residents and visitors that Baltimore City law prohibits minors from being in public places during specific hours without adult supervision. According to City Code Article 19, minors under 14 must be home by 9 p.m., while those aged 14 to 17 have a curfew of 11 p.m. during the summer months. Exceptions apply for youth accompanied by a parent or engaged in supervised activities.
