Baltimore Region Prepares for Another Heat Wave with Temperatures Soaring into the 100s

Marylanders are bracing for a significant rise in temperatures as the National Weather Service forecasts highs soaring into the triple digits beginning Wednesday. While this heat wave is not expected to match the extreme conditions experienced during the Fourth of July weekend, residents in Central Maryland should prepare for highs of 102 degrees on Wednesday and 101 degrees on Thursday.

According to Kevin Rodriguez, a meteorologist with the Baltimore/Washington office of the National Weather Service, the heat index will feel even hotter, reaching 105 degrees on both days. An extreme heat warning is typically issued when the heat index hits 110 degrees, a threshold that is currently not anticipated.

The previous heat wave in early July led to event cancellations, travel disruptions, and widespread power outages affecting around 70,000 residents, caused by a severe line of thunderstorms.

As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to decrease slightly over the weekend, with forecasts predicting a drop into the 90s and 80s, accompanied by potential showers across Central Maryland.
