Canton Residents Alarmed by Serial Flasher as Police Launch Investigation

A series of unsettling incidents involving a flasher in the Canton neighborhood has prompted local police to investigate after a resident's social media post gained traction.

Samantha Pollitt, 36, recounted her first encounter with the man, who was wearing only a burgundy sport coat, as she walked home several months ago. At the intersection of Fait Avenue and Hudson Street, the man emerged from the shadows, opened his jacket, and exposed himself before quickly fleeing the scene. Initially, Pollitt dismissed the incident as a drunken prank.

However, the situation escalated when Pollitt encountered the same man multiple times over the following months, culminating in increasingly alarming behavior. She described the flasher's actions as evolving from a quick display to more brazen acts, including public masturbation.

Pollitt reported the incidents to the police, but her experiences with law enforcement have been frustrating. An officer who initially responded seemed to take the matter lightly, and subsequent calls yielded little action, with police requesting video evidence via text instead of sending officers to the scene.

On June 25, Pollitt had another frightening encounter while sitting on her stoop, unaware of the man standing nearby in just socks and shoes. This prompted her to take to social media, posting a photo and description of the flasher in a local neighborhood group to warn others.

The response from the community was swift, with many neighbors sharing their own experiences and expressing support. Some residents noted that the flasher appears to be a seasonal presence, becoming active during the summer months.

Pollitt learned from a police officer that the man had been identified and reportedly has outstanding warrants for his arrest. Despite the alarming nature of the incidents, Pollitt expressed a sense of resignation, stating, “You live in a city, so these things happen.”

As the investigation continues, Pollitt hopes that increased community awareness will lead to a resolution and greater safety for residents in Canton.
