Clover Hill Dairy Expands Recall Due to Listeria Concerns

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) announced on Monday that Clover Hill Dairy, based in Mechanicsville, Maryland, has expanded its voluntary recall of cheese products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Initially, the recall focused on requesón and soft ricotta products, but the advisory now encompasses all cheese items produced by the dairy. The MDH has also suspended the facility's operating license as of May 30, 2026, while a follow-up evaluation is underway in cooperation with Clover Hill Dairy.

Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium that can cause Listeriosis, a serious infection with symptoms ranging from mild gastrointestinal distress to severe complications such as confusion and convulsions.

The recall affects a wide range of cheese products sold directly at Clover Hill Dairy's retail market, at farmers markets, and through various distributors across several states, including Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C. Some items may also be relabeled under different retailer brands.

Consumers are advised to check product labels for the Clover Hill Dairy manufacturer permit or plant number, which is “24-128.” The recalled products include:

  • Soft and Semi-Soft Cheese Varieties: Cuajada, Soft Cuajada, Soft Cuajada in Brine, Soft Cuajada Crumbs, Ricotta/Requeson, Soft Ricotta w/ Jalapenos
