A 15-year-old student from Columbia faces charges after being found with an unloaded gun at Hammond High School on Thursday, according to police reports.

The incident began when a school resource officer was alerted to the presence of a weapon. Upon investigation, the officer located the student and recovered the firearm, as confirmed by Sherry Llewellyn, a spokesperson for the Howard County Police Department.

Authorities stated that the teenager did not make any threats while on campus, and the circumstances surrounding how school officials became aware of the weapon remain unclear.

The student has been charged with multiple weapon violations, as reported by the police department. As of now, Howard County Public Schools has not responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
