Controversy Surrounds Mayor's Advisor Marvin James Amid Allegations of Misuse of City Resources

BALTIMORE, Md. — Marvin James, a senior advisor to Mayor Brandon Scott, has come under fire following reports that he infrequently visited City Hall while allegedly using a city-issued vehicle for personal activities.

An investigation by FOX45 revealed that James, a longtime ally of Mayor Scott and former chief of staff, was present at City Hall only twice over a three-week span. During this time, he reportedly used a city vehicle for trips to a salon, various restaurants, and even a campaign office for a mayoral candidate in Washington, D.C., all during standard working hours.

James is currently compensated at approximately $198,000 annually in his advisory role, a decrease from his previous salary of over $231,000 as chief of staff. The city’s vehicle-use policy explicitly prohibits the use of city-owned vehicles for personal or leisure activities.

When confronted with these allegations, Mayor Scott indicated that the administration would look into the matter, stating, “We will investigate anything and we’ll take appropriate action when necessary.” However, subsequent inquiries by FOX45 regarding the status of the investigation and James's employment status have not been answered, and no timeline for the investigation has been provided.

The lack of response from the Baltimore City Council members, contacted by FOX45 regarding the appropriateness of James's actions, has added to the growing concerns about accountability in the use of taxpayer resources.

The controversy has sparked significant discussion on social media, with users actively engaging in the conversation about James's whereabouts. Posts include humorous takes on his absence, such as a milk carton image with the caption, “Have you seen me?”

As of now, the public remains eager for clarity on the situation and what actions, if any, will be taken in response to the findings.
