Firefighters Respond to Major Blaze at Curtis Bay Auto Body Shop

A four-alarm fire ignited at an auto body shop in Curtis Bay on Saturday evening, shortly after a severe storm swept through the Baltimore area, according to local officials.

Emergency responders dispatched over seven fire trucks to the scene located at the intersection of Filbert Street and Curtis Avenue. Several ambulances were also present as firefighters battled the intense blaze.

Thick black smoke was visible from multiple directions, with residents as far as a block away on Hazel Street reporting the strong odor of smoke. Concerns were raised that the fire might have impacted nearby homes.

In response to the emergency, Baltimore Police cordoned off several blocks surrounding the fire site, restricting vehicle access to the area.

The fire broke out just as the skies darkened around 7 p.m., following a day of extreme heat. The National Weather Service had issued severe thunderstorm warnings for Baltimore and surrounding regions. Shortly after the alerts, heavy rains and strong winds swept through the city and nearby counties. Rain showers were expected to persist into the evening.

As of Saturday night, approximately 80,000 residents were reported to be without power, primarily in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties, according to the outage map from Baltimore Gas and Electric.
