Free Transit Offered on Veterans Day to Honor Military Service

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is set to honor military veterans and active-duty personnel by offering free transit rides on Veterans Day, November 11. This initiative marks the seventh consecutive year that the MTA has provided complimentary transportation to those who have served in the military.

Eligible riders include all U.S. military veterans, active-duty personnel, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserves. The free transit service encompasses a range of transportation options, including Local Buses, Metro Subway, Light Rail, MARC Train, Commuter Bus, and Mobility services.

Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold emphasized the importance of recognizing veterans and service members, stating, “Veterans and service members are an important part of our community. Offering complimentary transit trips is one way we can show our appreciation and make it easier for them to get where they need to go on this special day.”

To take advantage of this offer, eligible individuals must present one of the following forms of identification: a U.S. Department of Defense-issued ID, a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs-issued ID, or a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration-issued driver’s license or state ID that includes a veteran designation.

For additional details on affected transit routes, riders can refer to the Maryland Transit Administration's service alerts.
