On Sunday morning, two helicopters collided midair over Rio de Janeiro, leading to a devastating crash that killed all six passengers onboard, according to local firefighters.
The incident occurred in the western zone of the city, where one of the helicopters fell onto the parking lot of a car dealership. The crash ignited a fire that was subsequently extinguished by emergency services.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to uncover the cause of the collision. While the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, police have indicated that American singer and comedian Oliver Tree was listed as one of the passengers.
Tree had recently performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and shared a video on his Instagram account just a day prior, showcasing himself playing soccer in a neighborhood of Brazil.
Witnesses reported harrowing scenes following the crash. Fernandes de Freitas, a tire repair worker, described seeing one of the helicopters engulfed in flames after the collision and noted that he witnessed a passenger attempting to escape from the other aircraft before it crashed. “It was terrifying, absolutely horrifying,” he remarked.
