Home in Whiteford Set Ablaze by Flaming Gas Container

WHITEFORD, Md. — A house on Cooper Road became the target of an arson attack early Saturday morning when a flaming gasoline container was thrown onto the front porch.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. and was captured on the victim's Ring camera, although the perpetrator remained out of view. A neighbor noticed the fire about 20 minutes later and promptly contacted emergency services.

According to Master Deputy State Fire Marshal Oliver Alkire, the fire quickly spread from the porch into the home, resulting in extensive damage. Firefighters worked diligently for nearly two hours to bring the blaze under control.

Fortunately, the family, which includes a man, a woman, and their young daughter, was not present during the fire. They had moved into the home approximately 18 months ago.

Residents reported seeing a vehicle speeding away from the vicinity two days prior to the incident, but as of now, investigators have not identified any suspects or motives behind the attack. One neighbor expressed confusion about the targeting of the family, stating, "Everybody's just at a loss."

The estimated damage to the home is around $300,000. The State Fire Marshal's Office has assigned a dedicated team of investigators to the case, which is classified as First Degree Arson, a serious felony that carries severe penalties.

"This certainly carries a minimum of 30 years and multiple fines. We are actively exploring all possibilities and individuals who could be involved," Alkire stated.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this incident to contact the State Fire Marshal's Office at 301-386-3050.
