Johns Hopkins Hospital Achieves Top Ranking in U.S. News List

The Johns Hopkins Hospital has once again secured a prestigious position in the annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, coming in at No. 4 nationwide. This recognition follows a comprehensive evaluation of nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country.

In addition to its overall ranking, Johns Hopkins excelled in numerous specialty areas, with ten specialties listed among the top five in the nation and fourteen within the top ten. This accomplishment underscores the hospital's commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centered care.

Locally, Johns Hopkins holds the title of the top-ranked hospital in Maryland. In a message to staff, Paul B. Rothman, dean of the medical faculty and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, along with Ronald R. Peterson, president of the Johns Hopkins Health System, expressed gratitude to employees for their role in maintaining the institution's legacy of quality care. They noted that the hospital has consistently been recognized in U.S. News rankings for the past 27 years.

Historically, Johns Hopkins dominated the rankings, holding the No. 1 position for 22 years, including an unprecedented 21 consecutive years from 1991 to 2011. This year, the Mayo Clinic took the top spot, followed by the Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins, and UCLA Medical Center.

In regional rankings, three hospitals affiliated with Johns Hopkins were recognized. The Johns Hopkins Hospital led all specialties in Maryland and Baltimore, while Suburban Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center ranked No. 11 and No. 13 in the state, respectively.

Rothman and Peterson acknowledged that recent changes in the U.S. News ranking methodology affected Johns Hopkins's standings. Adjustments in how points are allocated and the inclusion of hip and knee replacement surgeries, primarily performed at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, were significant factors.
