BALTIMORE — A Liberty Heights 7-Eleven has become a focal point of concern for local residents after it was robbed by a group of juveniles just days after a violent incident involving a 74-year-old man.
According to Baltimore Police, the latest incident occurred around midnight on Friday when multiple male juveniles broke into the convenience store, stealing tobacco products before fleeing the scene. This robbery follows a brutal attack on the elderly man outside the same store earlier this month, which has raised alarm among community members.
Residents have voiced their frustrations regarding the rise in juvenile crime, suggesting a lack of recreational facilities for youth as a contributing factor. “I would say it's probably because it's no more recreational centers for kids,” said Tat Burch, a local resident. “When I was growing up, we had places to go. Now it’s like they don’t exist.”
Another resident, James Scott, echoed these sentiments, criticizing city leadership: “You know kids right now don’t have anything to do. The mayor and Baltimore City, the whole council is corrupt.”
As police continue their investigation into both the burglary and the earlier assault, they are examining whether the two incidents are connected. Authorities are still searching for the six suspects involved in the July 7 attack, which was captured on surveillance video.
