A Baltimore man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of an off-duty police officer during a party near Clifton Park on Saturday night.
Christopher Leigh, 44, was taken into custody in Baltimore County on Sunday and is facing charges including attempted murder. The incident occurred when Officer Joshua Moody, 29, was attending the gathering and noticed Leigh making unwanted advances toward a woman crossing the street.
According to court documents, Moody, who was off-duty and unarmed, intervened and asked Leigh to leave the woman alone. However, he did not identify himself as a police officer. After a brief confrontation, Leigh returned to his vehicle.
As Moody escorted the woman across the street, Leigh allegedly reversed his Ford Escape, striking the woman. Moody approached Leigh again, at which point Leigh reportedly drew a firearm and shot Moody in the arm before fleeing the scene.
Both the officer and the woman were transported to local hospitals and are expected to recover from their injuries. Witnesses at the scene assisted police in identifying Leigh, noting that he appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Leigh's criminal history dates back to 1999, with previous convictions for assault and drug-related offenses. He is currently being held without bail.
