Man Arrested for Robbery After His Truck is Stolen Nearby

A 29-year-old man was taken into custody by Howard County police shortly after he allegedly broke into a Verizon store in Ellicott City and stole merchandise. The incident occurred early on June 25, when officers responded to reports of a burglary at approximately 5 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a broken window at the store and observed blood on the glass. They reviewed security footage, which showed a man stealing items from the establishment. Just 30 minutes later, officers were called to a nearby 7-Eleven, where a man reported his truck had been stolen.

When police arrived at the convenience store, they recognized the man as Jalen Godard, who had blood on his hands and clothing. Officers quickly arrested him after connecting him to the burglary across the street.

Body camera footage from the incident shows Godard repeatedly denying his involvement in the robbery. However, after being confronted by Officer Buchanan, he admitted to the crime. In a moment captured on video, Godard expressed disbelief that his truck had been stolen, to which Officer Buchanan remarked, 'That’s kind of some karma shit right there, ain’t it?'

Godard faces charges of burglary, theft, and destruction of property. According to police spokesperson Seth Hoffman, he is currently being held without bond.
