BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — Michael Maurice Johnson, 42, has been sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 25 years for the rape and assault of a young girl, according to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.
The sentencing occurred on July 1, 2024, with both the victim and the family of Phylicia Barnes, a 16-year-old girl whose murder Johnson was previously acquitted of, present in the courtroom.
Johnson's conviction stems from a brutal attack on the victim, who reported the incident to a social worker. The social worker subsequently contacted Baltimore County police, detailing how Johnson had strangled and raped the victim in his home.
Charging documents reveal that the victim suffered severe injuries, including popped blood vessels in her eyes and significant swelling of her mouth and tongue. Due to the extent of her injuries, she was only able to communicate with law enforcement through text messages.
During police interviews, the victim described her relationship with Johnson, whom she referred to as a “sugar daddy.” She disclosed that prior to entering foster care, she had been living with him in York, Pennsylvania.
The incident escalated after Johnson overheard the victim on a phone call with her sister discussing another man. This triggered a violent six-hour assault during which he repeatedly choked and raped her until she lost consciousness.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Johnson asleep in the bedroom and took him into custody.
