Consumers in Maryland are being advised to inspect their refrigerators after the state's health officials have expanded a recall of Clover Hill Dairy products to encompass all cheese items sold by the Mechanicsville-based company.
This warning follows a previous voluntary recall issued by Clover Hill Dairy less than two weeks ago, which initially targeted several soft ricotta products due to potential listeria contamination.
In a recent announcement, the Maryland Department of Health stated that Clover Hill Dairy has agreed to voluntarily recall all cheese products. The department also suspended the facility's operating license on May 30, 2026, citing a public health risk, and is conducting ongoing evaluations in collaboration with the dairy.
Clover Hill Dairy, an Amish-owned farm store, distributes its cheese products at various farmers markets and through third-party distributors across states including New York, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
The health department noted that some products may be sold under different brand names, such as KESSO, QUESOS LA RICURA, IZALCO, DE MI PUEBLO, and RIO LINDO. Customers are encouraged to check for the manufacturer number “24-128” on package labels before consuming any cheese products.
Officials have urged the public to refrain from selling or consuming any Clover Hill cheese products. Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria of concern, can spread easily and lead to listeriosis, a serious illness that poses significant risks for pregnant women, newborns, young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
Symptoms of listeriosis can manifest within one to three days and may include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. More severe cases could present with headache, stiff neck, confusion, and loss of balance. The health department advises individuals experiencing symptoms that may indicate a listeriosis infection to seek medical attention promptly.
