BALTIMORE — The Maryland Health Department has reported another case of measles, bringing the total to three confirmed cases within the past week.
This latest case involves a resident from Central Maryland. Health officials are alerting the public about potential exposure at the Carroll Hospital Emergency Department waiting room in Westminster. Individuals who were present there on July 21 between 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. may have been at risk.
Earlier this week, two separate cases were identified in Southern Maryland, contributing to the rising concern regarding this highly contagious disease.
Measles spreads easily through the air, particularly when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or breathes. Symptoms often begin with a high fever exceeding 101 degrees Fahrenheit, accompanied by a runny nose, cough, and red, watery eyes.
As of now, Maryland has recorded a total of 12 measles cases in 2026.
