BERLIN, Md. — Authorities are investigating a serious collision that occurred on Sunday evening in Worcester County, involving a Maryland State trooper and a teenage driver.
The incident took place shortly before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of eastbound U.S. Route 50 and Maryland Route 818. Police reported that a Land Rover, driven by a 16-year-old boy, was traveling north on MD Route 818 when it attempted to cross the intersection without yielding to oncoming traffic.
As a result, the Land Rover collided with the marked patrol car of the state trooper, who was proceeding east on U.S. Route 50.
Following the crash, emergency responders transported the trooper to a local hospital. Due to the severity of the injuries, he was subsequently flown to a trauma center for further treatment. The teenage driver was also airlifted to a trauma center for medical attention.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing. Once completed, the findings will be submitted to the Office of the State's Attorney in Prince George's County to assess whether any charges will be filed.
