Pikesville Bus Collision Results in 28 Injuries

A bus accident in Pikesville, a suburb of Baltimore, occurred on Wednesday night, injuring at least 28 people. The Baltimore County Fire Department has classified the incident as a mass casualty event.

The crash involved a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus that collided with several cars before ultimately crashing into a building located at 500 West Franklin Street. One individual has been reported in critical condition.

According to Jerimiah Moerke, a spokesperson for the MTA, the bus first struck a Lexus and then a Nissan before coming to a halt against the building. Emergency responders worked to extricate the bus driver from the vehicle.

Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, noted that the situation was escalated to a level one mass casualty incident due to the number of injuries requiring medical attention. All injured parties were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Baltimore City Fire Department's special rescue operations team evaluated the structural stability of the four-story apartment building affected by the crash. Fortunately, they found that the building's support beams were intact, although the first floor has been temporarily condemned.

Authorities are advising motorists to steer clear of the area as emergency personnel continue to manage the situation. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with MTA Police, Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors currently on-site.
