BALTIMORE — A significant number of Maryland residents continue to experience power outages after consecutive storms swept through the region during the July 4th weekend.
As of Tuesday morning, approximately 7,000 customers remain without power, according to Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE). This figure is a stark decrease from the more than 100,000 customers who initially lost electricity due to the storms.
BGE reported that the outages are associated with around 460 individual restoration efforts across the affected areas. The hardest-hit locations include Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Harford County, and Baltimore City.
“Downed poles and wires have been a major concern due to the intensity of the storms and high winds,” BGE stated in a recent update.
The utility company anticipates that most customers impacted by the July 4th storm will have their power restored by 11 PM on July 7. Additionally, BGE expects to restore power to 80 percent of those affected by the storms on July 5 by the same deadline.
For any remaining outages after this time, customers may face delays until 11 PM on Wednesday, July 8. BGE cautioned that these restoration estimates could change due to further damage or additional outages caused by incoming weather conditions.
The majority of the outages were attributed to fallen trees, branches, and other debris resulting from the storms.
