BALTIMORE — The sixth annual Safe Summer program was officially launched on Saturday at Druid Hill Park by Safe Streets Baltimore.
This initiative, which began in 2020, is designed to foster peace during the summer months. It is organized by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks in collaboration with the Mayor's Office.
Throughout the summer, Safe Streets Baltimore will host a series of community events aimed at engaging local residents and promoting public safety. Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his pride in the program, noting the importance of partnerships with organizations such as Catholic Charities and LifeBridge Health Center for Hope.
“We are excited to work with our Safe Streets partners to build on Baltimore's progress in reducing homicides and nonfatal shootings to historic lows,” said Mayor Scott. He highlighted this year's theme, 'Breaking Chains, Chasing Change,' which reflects the ongoing efforts of Safe Streets to enhance community safety year-round.
In the previous year, Safe Streets sites organized approximately 60 events, including community block parties and school supply giveaways, further demonstrating their commitment to community engagement and safety.
