Shooting in Southwest Baltimore Leaves One Dead, One Injured

A shooting in Southwest Baltimore on Saturday night resulted in the death of a man and injuries to a woman, according to police reports.

Officers arrived at the 200 block of North Payson Street around 9:42 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered a 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, neither of whom have been publicly identified, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The man was later pronounced dead, while the woman is expected to survive her injuries, which are not considered life-threatening. Authorities have not disclosed whether there was any known relationship between the two individuals.

Lindsey Eldridge, a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department, stated that the investigation into the shooting is currently active, with detectives pursuing various leads.

Recent data from the Baltimore Police Department indicates a total of 53 homicides and 175 non-fatal shootings in the city this year. Comparatively, at the same point last year, there were 77 homicides alongside 175 non-fatal shootings.

This year is on track to continue a trend of significant declines in homicide rates, with the first half of 2026 showing the lowest number of homicides since 1970.
