Suspect in Custody After Shooting Off-Duty Baltimore Officer at Party

BALTIMORE — A man has been taken into custody following the shooting of an off-duty Baltimore City Police officer during a party near Clifton Park on Saturday night.

Christopher Leigh, 44, was arrested on Sunday in Baltimore County and charged with attempted murder. The incident unfolded when Officer Joshua Moody, 29, who was off-duty and unarmed, intervened as Leigh allegedly made unwanted advances toward a woman crossing the street.

According to court documents, Moody approached Leigh and asked him to leave the woman alone. However, he did not identify himself as a police officer. As Moody assisted the woman across the street, Leigh reportedly reversed his Ford Escape, hitting her.

In a sudden escalation, Leigh then drew a firearm and shot Moody in the arm before fleeing the scene. Both the officer and the woman were transported to local hospitals, where they are expected to recover from their injuries.

Witnesses at the scene assisted law enforcement in identifying Leigh as the shooter, noting that he appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident. Leigh has a criminal history that includes prior assault and drug-related convictions dating back to 1999.
