A grand jury has indicted a 16-year-old boy, Keith James Jr., in connection with the shooting deaths of two siblings in Gwynn Oak, Baltimore County. The incident occurred on July 7, resulting in the deaths of 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie and her 9-year-old brother, Steve Allen.
Authorities took James into custody last week after an investigation revealed he was known to the victims. Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough confirmed the relationship during a press conference.
According to charging documents, the events leading up to the tragic incident began on July 4, when Myrie and James met at her home. They were reportedly in conversation with a third individual over FaceTime. A witness claimed to have seen James brandishing a gun while in bed with Myrie, and overheard him threatening her, stating he would kill her if she was unfaithful.
Investigators discovered a concerning message sent by Myrie to the witness, which read: "Keith said if I cheat he finna put the gun inside me. Help Me." This message raised alarms about the nature of their relationship.
On the night of the murders, James was reportedly in proximity to the siblings’ residence, as confirmed by phone records obtained by law enforcement. Although he acknowledged knowing Myrie and meeting her on July 4, he denied having contact with her on the night of the shooting.
James has been charged as an adult and is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
