Silver Spring, Md. — Early Sunday morning, a house fire in Silver Spring led to the tragic deaths of two women and left two firefighters injured.
According to a spokesperson from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, the incident began at approximately 4:18 a.m. when a fire crew returning from a hospital transport noticed smoke at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Plyers Mill Road.
Upon further investigation, firefighters discovered the fire in the 2400 block of Harmon Road. When they arrived at the scene, they found flames engulfing the second floor of the residence.
Firefighters conducted a search of the home and sadly located the bodies of the two women inside.
Two firefighters sustained injuries during the response and were transported to local hospitals. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening, and they are expected to be released soon.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet determined what led to the blaze.
