Tragic Skydiving Plane Crash Claims 12 Lives in Missouri

A devastating plane crash on Sunday in rural Bates County, Missouri has resulted in the loss of 12 lives, prompting an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Local authorities are currently in the process of notifying the victims' families.

The Butler community is grappling with the tragedy, as skydiving is a popular activity in the area. Northern Bates County Commissioner John Gray expressed the community's shock, emphasizing that many locals participate in skydiving as a recreational pursuit. “You pray for the families and the friends of those families that lost loved ones today,” he shared, reflecting on the unexpected nature of the incident.

Gray, who has personal experience with a plane crash in Alaska, described the anxiety he felt upon hearing the news after attending church. He noted that many skydivers in the area are seasoned enthusiasts, with some having completed thousands of jumps. After the crash, he reached out to a friend who was supposed to be on the flight, thankful to learn that he was safe.

The acting Manager of the Butler Airport Commission, Dennis Jacobs, reported that state aid and support from various organizations have begun to arrive to assist first responders and grieving families. Jacobs described the scene of the crash, recalling the sight of smoking wreckage and expressing the profound heartache felt by the community.

While details about the cause of the crash remain unclear, Jacobs confirmed that the aircraft, a Pacific Aerospace 750XL, had experienced issues in the past, including a previous incident in 2024. He emphasized that the airport commission had never had safety concerns regarding Skydive KC, the operator involved in the crash.

As the investigation continues, local non-profits are stepping up to provide support services to those affected by the tragedy. The community remains in shock, united in prayer for the victims and their families.
