According to a statement from U.S. Central Command, the latest strikes began at 4 p.m. ET on Monday. The military indicated that these operations are intended to diminish Iranian military capabilities that threaten commercial shipping in the region.
This escalation follows a weekend that saw the loss of three U.S. service members in the area. One soldier was killed in northern Iraq during a controlled detonation of a downed Iranian drone, while two others died at a U.S. base in Jordan due to Iranian drone and missile attacks.
