U.S. News & World Report has unveiled its 2025-2026 rankings of the Best Regional Hospitals, highlighting those that have exhibited superior healthcare outcomes. Among the 504 hospitals featured in the report, the University of Vermont Medical Center located in Burlington has been recognized for its excellence.
The evaluation process included a comprehensive analysis of performance data from approximately 4,400 hospitals across the nation. Key factors assessed in this analysis were nursing care quality, instances of avoidable complications, and risk-adjusted mortality rates.
Hospitals were categorized into three performance tiers: high performing, as expected, or evaluated based on their treatment procedures and care plans. This year, Vermont ranked 19th nationally for healthcare, an assessment based on criteria including access to care, quality of services, and public health outcomes.
Out of the 17 hospitals assessed in the state, the University of Vermont Medical Center stood out as the sole institution to earn the designation of Best Regional Hospital for the upcoming year.
Additionally, U.S. News & World Report has also released a list of 20 hospitals that made it to the national Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2025-2026.
