Duties
Minimum Qualifications:Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Selective Qualification: One and a half (1.5) years of experience in bridge deck testing, or transportation infrastructure inspection, or pavement and bridge maintenance.
*A Selective Qualification is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill or ability).
Preferred Qualifications:The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following:
- Knowledge of the principles of basic mathematics and ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Basic Knowledge of Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) using MicroStation.
- Basic Knowledge of Temporary Traffic Control Standards and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Basic Knowledge of Federal Highway Regulations and Criteria for In-Service Bridge conditions.
- Basic knowledge of computers and ability to learn basic functions on computer and keyboard.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and in a team setting.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions.
Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
2. Applicants who possess an associate's degree in engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.
Qualifications
* Candidate must posses a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
* Candidate must possess/obtain a Temporary Traffic Control Manager Certification within the probationary period.
