Duties
Job PurposeUnder general supervision in the Maryland Access Point Office (MAP).
Essential Job Duties
- Provides information, referrals, and assistance to older adults, individuals with disabilities, family members, and professionals.
- Enters consumer and statistical information for reports into the Wellsky database.
- Completes consumer intakes for various Department of Aging programs and forwards referrals.
- Responds to inquiries about the Long Term Services & Supports (LTSS) system and Level 1 Screenings.
- Maintains expertise in the field of Information and Referral, and Options Counseling.
- Assists in the operations of other MAP services, including the Loan Closet, Speakers Bureau, and updating MAP materials.
- Triages crises with consumers and refers to the appropriate resources.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science.
Experience described in the essential duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of 4 years, for the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of theories and principles of aging.
- Knowledge of issues and resources for persons with disabilities.
- Basic knowledge of community, human, and social services assistance programs.
- Communication skills, including: active listening, redirection, de-escalation, and summarizing.
- Skills in completing assessments of customers’ situations.
- Skills in problem-solving.
- Skills in using databases, Word documents, email, and online forms.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to handle difficult customers and those experiencing a crisis.
- Ability to enter and maintain client information in electronic records.
- Ability to make public presentations.
- Ability to interpret Federal, State, and local regulations, procedures, and guidelines for human services professionals.
Some positions within this classification may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a Non-Commercial, Class C Maryland driver's license at the time of appointment.
