MTA Special Police Officer - Trainee

Pre-Employment Requirements

1. Candidates may be subject to a background investigation under Federal and State laws and regulations. A conviction is not an automatic disqualification to employment. Erroneous, misleading, or fraudulent information on the application is enough grounds for rejection from the hiring process, removal from the list of eligible, withdrawal of an offer for employment or immediate discharge. 

2. Employees in this classification may be subject to pre-employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49 - Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules, and Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. 

3. Candidates must pass a physical agility test administered by the MTA Police Force. 

4. Candidates must possess a motor vehicle license valid in the State of Maryland.   

5. Candidates must be, at least, 18 years old.

Special Employment Requirements

1. Selected candidates must complete training and obtain the Maryland State Police Special Police Officer Certification.

2. Employees in this classification are deemed essential personnel designated by MDOT MTA to be critical in maintaining the operations of the Department in times of significant service emergencies or adverse weather conditions. During these events, employees are required to report to work as scheduled. 

3. Employees in this classification are required to complete in-service training. 

4. Employees in this classification may work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as may be required to maintain continuous security patrol and monitoring across MTA during the MTA operational hours.  

5. The work may be performed outdoors in all weather conditions and includes standing and walking under conditions of high-volume traffic, noise and congestion and possible exposure to dangerous situations.

Qualifications
Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

*Ability to obtain Maryland State Police Special Police Officer Certification.
