RN responsibilities:


Although work duties can vary depending on the setting and specialty, your responsibilities may include the following.



Collect information and assess a patient's condition by taking vital signs and medical history, performing physical examinations and observations, and analyzing laboratory and diagnostic tests
Monitor, record, and report patient responses and any changes in condition using Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and coordinate patient care plans
Supervise licensed practical/vocational nurses, nurse assistants, and other support staff as needed
Administer medications, IV therapy, and other treatments as prescribed
Perform clinical procedures including wound care, specimen collection, and emergency response protocols
Prepare shift handoff reports using SBAR or facility-specific tools to ensure continuity of care
Advocate for the best interests of the patient and serve as a communicator between the patient and the healthcare team
Educate patients and family members about health promotion, disease prevention, treatment procedures, and self-care management, and offer emotional support
Safeguard protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA regulations and maintain strict infection control standards using proper PPE
Document and report safety events and ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility-mandated procedures


RN qualifications:


RNs maintain professional excellence by meeting the following qualifications and standards:



Current and valid RN license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Recent nursing experience preferred; 2–3 years preferred for high-acuity settings such as ICU, ER, or Med-Surg
Knowledge of nursing procedures and protocols
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to provide compassionate and reliable care while adapting quickly to different facility environments
Ability to work 12-hour shifts with prolonged standing and safe patient handling
Ability to provide compassionate and reliable care

About Required RN License:


To become a registered nurse (RN), an individual needs to complete an accredited nursing program for RNs.
