Duties
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the maintenance, construction, inspection, cleaning, and repair of water and wastewater lines, related water and sewer system components, and other bureau facilities or supervises the Public Works Communication Center.- Plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in a crew or crews engaged in the installation, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines, house connections, and manholes. Plans and lays out line excavations. Supervises the repair and repaving of affected roadways and the repair and construction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises the routine maintenance and cleaning of lines. Supervises and participates in the operation of truck mounted roto rooter equipment, Jet-Vacs, and line inspection units. Fields and responds to complaints from the public regarding utilities operations.
- Performs estimates of time and materials required for jobs. Orders and plans for the delivery of materials. Keeps records of crew activities. Prepares routine reports.
- Supervises the Public Works Communication Center providing emergency and non-emergency assistance for all Department functions.
- Assesses public works situations and supervises the dispatch of appropriate equipment and personnel. Maintains liaison with public safety personnel, utility companies, and other County agencies.
- Participates in and conducts safety related and other training exercises. Ensures crews follow established safety procedures
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Four years' experience in water and/or sewer maintenance, construction, or dispatch work.
Licenses and Certificates
Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B or class A Maryland driver's license and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. (License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.)
