Steel Services, Inc. is seeking a Warehouse Material Handler to join our team at our Richmond Service Center. As a Warehouse Material Handler at Steel Services, your role is vital in fulfilling our clients’ metal needs. Your skills in safely operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other necessary equipment are crucial in delivering the top-quality products for which our company is known.

What will your day-to-day look like?
Completing safety checklists
Pulling and preparing orders for out-going shipments as required
Banding and labeling customer orders
Operating forklift and side-loader
Operating overhead crane
Completing orders using computer system
Assisting with unloading incoming shipments
Maintaining accurate inventory
Replenishing stocking areas
Keeping work area organized, neat, and clean
Maintaining operating equipment as needed
What are the requirements?
Must be proficient at using a tape measure, calipers, and other basic measuring tools
Math skills for confirming piece counts
Forklift operation (will train)
Overhead crane operation (will train)
Must be comfortable working in a warehouse setting subject to seasonally hot and/or cold conditions
The ideal candidate will always put safety first and will always wear appropriate PPE, as well as participate in safety training initiatives, regardless of experience
Should prefer working in a team environment, but be comfortable working on independent tasks when assigned
What will give you an edge over other applicants?
Prior metal work experience – operating band saws, angle master, or CNC burning machine
Experience handling metal products up to 10 tons
Forklift experience (preferably side loader forklifts)
Overhead crane experience
Ability to load/unload materials by hand and via heavy equipment
Commitment to safety standards and ongoing safety initiatives
