CLASS DEFINITION
A Wastewater Tech Supervisor I Sanitary supervises and participates in the operation of mechanical and electrical equipment at a wastewater treatment plant on an assigned shift. Work of this class involves supervising wastewater operation technicians.
Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a rotating shift with evening, night, weekend, holiday and callback hours as required or held over until properly relieved or for emergencies. Work is performed in a wastewater treatment plant where there is regular exposure to toxic chemicals, pathogenic bacteria, noxious odors and extremes of weather. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have four years of experience in the operation, maintenance and minor repair of equipment in a wastewater treatment plant.
AND
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.
Note: Employees in this class must hold and maintain a valid State of Maryland Permanent Operator's Certificate Wastewater Class A and Class 5, issued by the Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators, throughout employment.
PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE OR LEARNER PERMITS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and minor repair of mechanical and electrical equipment at a wastewater treatment plant.
Knowledge of the procedures involved in testing water samples and making equipment adjustments.
Knowledge of wastewater processing procedures and the theories of wastewater treatment.
Knowledge of Maryland State and Federal regulations regarding permit requirements.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Ability to evaluate operating procedures and ensure compliance with requirements.
Ability to maintain records and write reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to perform arithmetical computations.
Supervisory ability.
Background Check

Probation
All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process

Examination Process
