Annapolis Cancels July 4 Events Amid Severe Weather Threat

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — In light of severe weather forecasts, Annapolis officials have decided to cancel two significant events planned for the Fourth of July: the Independence Day Parade and the U.S. Naval Academy Electric Brigade concert.

The decision comes as the National Weather Service has predicted a 70% likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning between 6 and 10 p.m. on July 4.

Despite the cancellations of the parade and concert, the city plans to proceed with its fireworks display, scheduled for 9:15 p.m., although it may be delayed depending on weather conditions.

Mayor Jared Littmann expressed the difficulty of this decision, emphasizing that the safety of residents and visitors is the top priority. “Cancelling the 4th of July parade and concert was a difficult decision, and one we did not take lightly,” he said. “The high chance of lightning means that safety may be at risk if we continue with these events. Even though the parade and concert are canceled, we are still celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday and Annapolis’s long, storied role in that history.”
