Residents of Annapolis are reeling from the impact of back-to-back storms, with cleanup still underway from Friday night’s severe weather as another storm system approaches on Sunday night.
The western section of Annapolis and Admiral Heights were particularly affected by the intense rainfall and strong winds. Reports indicate that several homes sustained damage, including one where a deck was uprooted by a fallen tree. Many residents experienced tree limbs crashing through windows, and power outages affected tens of thousands across the county.
Derek and Keren Lotfi, neighbors in the area, described their experience as frightening. Derek noted that the winds were powerful enough to bend nearby trees before one ultimately fell. Keren added that the family took their children into the basement for safety, uncertain if a tornado was imminent. Fortunately, they reported regaining power within a day.
As cleanup efforts continued on Sunday, concerns grew regarding the incoming storm. Neighbor Greg Yatarola expressed his apprehension about the potential for more damage, but he remained optimistic, recalling their survival through the previous storm. Yatarola also mentioned that he has been assisting others in the community while managing his firewood business, which has been impacted by the recent weather.
Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) has stated that their crews are ready to respond to the anticipated storm. Residents are encouraged to use the BGE app or contact the utility directly to report power outages or downed wires. For non-emergency storm-related inquiries, the Annapolis Call Center is available to assist residents.
