BALTIMORE, Md. — A local bakery owner is expressing her determination to stay in business following two burglaries that occurred at the Fallstaff Shopping Center on Reisterstown Road earlier this week.
According to police reports, the first incident took place around 4 a.m. on Tuesday when security footage captured two individuals breaking the front window of America's Best Wings. Just five minutes later, three suspects were seen breaking into El Gran Pollo and stealing a cash register containing $1,000.
April Richardson, co-owner of Baked in Baltimore, shared her feelings about the recent crimes, recalling the panic brought back by the incidents. Her bakery had previously been targeted in 2021, resulting in significant damage and community support to help them recover.
“I was like, not again,” Richardson said, reflecting on the emotional toll of the burglaries. “That created panic and fear because we just got over the first time it happened to us.”
In response to the recent events, Richardson emphasized her commitment to the community. Just two weeks prior, her bakery had undergone a rebranding, symbolizing their intention to remain a fixture in the area. “We’re unmovable,” she stated.
Richardson took to Facebook to rally support, and her post garnered over 40,000 views, with many users expressing their intention to visit her bakery and other businesses affected by the crime.
“I did see one say, 'Well, why don't you just move?' Well, why don't you just come? Support companies like Baked in Baltimore, El Gran Pollo and America's Best Wings. We've decided that Baltimore is worthy, and because of that we stay here,” she added.
While no arrests have been made in connection with the burglaries, the business owners are united in their resolve to continue operating in the community. “You're not gonna stop us. We are baked in Baltimore, and we're going to continue to bake in Baltimore, no matter what,” Richardson affirmed.
