The Baltimore County Police Department has officially welcomed 55 new officers, marking a significant step in its recruitment initiatives. This event took place on Wednesday and represents the second recruit class of this size since April 2026.
Under the leadership of Police Chief Robert McCullough, the department continues to focus on community policing and attracting qualified candidates to serve in the area. The Baltimore County Police Department is recognized as the 21st largest police department in the United States.
Notably, the 177th Recruit Class has made history by being the first police recruit group in Maryland to receive sensory support backpacks. This initiative stems from a partnership between the Baltimore County Police Department and the Hussman Institute. The backpacks, which were assembled by individuals on the autism spectrum, are intended to facilitate better interactions between officers and residents with autism or other intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The graduation ceremony for the new recruits is scheduled for July 16 at 6 p.m. at Patapsco High School, where the officers will officially complete their training.
