Baltimore County authorities have identified a 7-year-old girl who died following an accidental shooting at a residence in Milford Mill. The victim, Alayah Terrell, was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Police received a report of the shooting around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, in the 7800 block of Selgrave Road. Emergency responders transported Terrell to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. An autopsy is currently pending.
Trae Corbin, a spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department, confirmed that adults were present in the home at the time of the incident. Investigators are working to ascertain the type of firearm involved, the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and whether the weapon was stored safely.
Corbin expressed the tragic nature of the incident, stating, “We don’t know how the shooting took place, but we do believe it was accidental in nature.” The police have not yet made a determination regarding potential charges related to the case. Baltimore County State’s Attorney Scott Shellenberger has refrained from commenting, citing the ongoing investigation.
This incident follows another recent tragedy in the area, where siblings Steve Allen, 9, and Giovanna Myrie, 15, were fatally shot in Gwynn Oak. Authorities are still pursuing leads in that case.
