A Baltimore resident has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking operation, as confirmed by the State's Attorney's Office.
Desmond Jones, 45, was also placed on five years of probation following his conviction for possession and conspiracy to distribute cocaine. His arrest stemmed from a comprehensive investigation into a drug trafficking network in the Baltimore area.
According to court documents, law enforcement identified Jones as a member of the organization during an investigation that took place in August 2023. Investigators tracked the activities of a co-conspirator, through whom they connected Jones to the drug trafficking operation.
Between August 15 and August 24, 2023, police observed multiple meetings between Jones and other drug traffickers at a residence in Baltimore. On August 16, Jones was seen at the home carrying a heavy bag and meeting with the co-conspirator. The following day, the co-conspirator was spotted making a significant cash deposit at a bank.
Further surveillance on August 21 revealed that Jones arrived at the same location with another large bag, which was noticeably smaller when he departed. Authorities suspected that Jones was supplying the co-conspirator with funds for future drug shipments.
Investigators then monitored a stash location in Timonium, where they observed other associates carrying large duffel bags. During this period, Jones was seen picking up the co-conspirator and traveling to the National Harbor, where they met with another individual.
Upon returning to Baltimore and then to the stash house in Timonium, Jones and the co-conspirator were intercepted by law enforcement. Investigators discovered packages of cocaine through a tear in one of the bags, leading to their arrest along with another accomplice.
In total, authorities recovered 43 kilograms of cocaine from one bag and 32 kilograms from another, alongside packaging materials, suspected marijuana, cash, and firearms.
