Baltimore Man Sentenced to Life Plus 38 Years for Murder and Body Concealment

A Baltimore man has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 38 years for the murder of 38-year-old Pedie Edwards II, whose body was discovered in New Jersey.

Pablo Agosto Acevedo was convicted of murder and tampering with evidence related to the fatal shooting of Edwards, according to the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office.

The investigation began on November 2, 2023, when Baltimore County police reached out to the Baltimore City police regarding a missing persons report for Edwards. Authorities suspected that Acevedo was involved in Edwards' disappearance.

Edwards' sister reported that he had not returned home after being seen with Acevedo on November 1, 2023. Surveillance footage from the 600 block of N. Decker Avenue captured Edwards driving a car with Acevedo as a passenger. The footage showed Acevedo exiting the vehicle around 1:30 a.m., returning to the car, and appearing to retrieve an item from it.

Investigators believe that Acevedo shot Edwards from the passenger seat before moving his body to the back of the vehicle and driving away. Although there were reports of gunfire, police did not find any evidence at the scene initially.

The car, which was later discovered to be stolen, was located on November 2 in Dundalk, set ablaze. Inside, investigators found a credit card belonging to Edwards, Acevedo's driver's license, shell casings, and blood samples.

On December 9, 2023, Edwards' body was recovered from the Hackensack River in Secaucus, New Jersey, with the cause of death confirmed as a gunshot wound. Ballistics tests linked the bullets found in Edwards' body to the shell casings discovered in the abandoned vehicle.

Following the incident, Acevedo fled to Puerto Rico after departing from JFK Airport on November 2. Court records indicate that he has a prior conviction for kidnapping from May 2015.
