In a statement, Mayor Scott noted the importance of addressing the long-standing issues of disinvestment in the city. He stated, "We knew that to counter decades of intentional disinvestment, we had to be just as intentional with our work to create opportunity and drive progress in every neighborhood." He highlighted the positive outcomes achieved over the past five years, including a nearly 60% reduction in homicides and nonfatal shootings, the elimination of over 25% of vacant properties, and the opening of eight new or renovated recreation centers and 13 schools.
The updated action plan introduces a new focus area: Modernizing Public Infrastructure. This addition underscores the necessity of investing in accessible facilities, underground structures, transportation systems, and digital infrastructure.
Furthermore, the plan aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. To formulate this strategy, the Mayor's Office of Performance and Innovation collaborated with the Bureau of Budget Management and Research to analyze performance data, service delivery trends, and community conditions. This review was instrumental in identifying key priorities and establishing targeted strategies to support them.
