Baltimore Mother Charged with Attempted Murder After Lake Incident in Minnesota

A woman from Baltimore has been charged with attempted murder following a disturbing incident involving her teenage daughter at a lake in Minnesota.

The event took place on July 5 at approximately 4:19 PM in Otter Tail County, where Jasmine Marie Laws, a resident of Northeast Baltimore's Hamilton neighborhood, was spending the Fourth of July holiday with her 15-year-old daughter.

According to court documents, an argument erupted when Laws allegedly reacted to her daughter hitting her with a towel while they were on a pontoon boat. In a fit of anger, Laws reportedly threw her daughter's cellphone into the lake, escalating the confrontation.

Witnesses, including a friend of the daughter, stated they observed Laws holding her daughter underwater by the neck. Initially, Laws denied any wrongdoing, but later comments overheard by deputies indicated that she claimed her daughter's head was “never under water for more than 3 seconds at a time.”

The daughter later recounted to police that she lost consciousness during the incident. Neighbors confirmed seeing her unresponsive on the beach for a period following the altercation.

One witness reportedly heard Laws make a chilling statement to her daughter, saying, “I gave you life, I can f*****g end your life!” Before law enforcement arrived, bystanders had to intervene physically to separate the two.

If convicted of the charges, Laws could face a prison sentence exceeding 23 years.
