The Baltimore Police Department has announced a heightened crackdown on dirt bikers and gas station owners who illegally sell fuel to unregistered vehicles, including dirt bikes. Over the weekend, police confiscated 11 vehicles as part of this enforcement initiative.
Under city regulations, gas station owners and their employees can face fines of up to $1,000 and possible jail time of up to 90 days for selling gasoline to dirt bike riders. Similarly, riders can incur fines and have their vehicles confiscated for violating these laws.
Lindsey Eldridge, a spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department, stated, "If officers observe dirt bikes being fueled at gas stations or obtain video evidence of such activities, they are authorized to investigate and issue citations in accordance with City Code." The department is also collaborating with the community to gather information regarding the storage and use of dirt bikes.
Although these regulations have been in place since at least 2012, the police department recently shared a graphic on social media to remind the public of the laws and to announce the increased enforcement efforts. This initiative also targets other off-road vehicles, such as ATVs and minibikes.
