Baltimore police are actively searching for a group of six unidentified suspects connected to a violent assault on an elderly man outside a 7-Eleven store in the Northern District.
The incident occurred around 4 a.m. on July 7, when surveillance footage revealed the suspects, dressed in hooded sweatshirts, approaching the victim and launching a brutal attack. The video shows the group knocking the man to the ground multiple times and brandishing weapons.
In one alarming moment captured on the footage, a suspect appears to point what resembles an assault rifle at the victim, while another brandishes a sword. The police have confirmed that the victim sustained only minor bruising from the encounter.
This incident comes on the heels of a recent announcement from Baltimore's Mayor Brandon M. Scott, who noted a decrease in violent crime in the city. According to the mayor's office, Baltimore has recorded the lowest number of homicides for the first six months of a year, with a 23.1% reduction compared to the previous year.
Despite the overall decline in violent crime, the police have not ruled out the possibility that the suspects may be linked to other criminal activities in the area.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspects to come forward as the investigation continues.
