Baltimore, MD (November 8, 2024) — Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced today that the City of Baltimore is fully prepared for the upcoming 2024-2025 snow season. Joining him were officials from various city departments, including the Department of Transportation, Public Works, and the Office of Emergency Management.

“Under the leadership of Transportation Director Corren Johnson, we have thoroughly examined our snow operations to ensure that we are ready for whatever winter brings,” said Mayor Scott. He emphasized the commitment of the city’s snow crews to maintain safe streets throughout the season.

The Baltimore City Snow Team, which consists of personnel from multiple departments, is equipped with a budget of nearly $6.8 million. This includes 294 pieces of snow removal equipment and over 300 contractor apparatuses. The city has also stockpiled more than 15,000 tons of salt and has a 36,000-gallon capacity for salt brine to pretreat major roadways.

During winter storms, the city’s Office of Emergency Management collaborates with various departments, including Health, Housing and Community Development, and the Baltimore Police Department, to ensure the safety of residents.

Director Johnson reminded residents that as winter approaches, it is crucial to prepare for potential storms. He advised assembling emergency supply kits for homes and vehicles, and emphasized the importance of staying off the roads during severe weather to facilitate snow removal efforts.

For those who must travel, residents are encouraged to maintain their vehicles and familiarize themselves with the city’s Snow Emergency Plan, which includes three phases that can affect parking along designated routes. Drivers are urged to exercise caution in icy conditions.

Residents should stay informed by tuning into local news and signing up for weather alerts. The city's snow page is also available for updates throughout the winter season.
