Baltimore Recreation and Parks Collaborates with Food Recovery Network to Provide Fresh Produce

Baltimore City Recreation and Parks has initiated a collaboration with the Food Recovery Network to offer fresh produce to families enrolled in summer camps.

On Monday, the organizations distributed thousands of dollars worth of fruits and vegetables to approximately 80 families at the C.C. Jackson Recreation Center. This initiative is particularly crucial during the summer when many children lose access to school meal programs.

Erin Price, the Food Recovery Network's Director of Stakeholder Engagement, emphasized the significance of this effort. She noted that in Baltimore City, around 68,000 students depend on free and reduced lunch programs during the school year. With schools closed for the summer, it becomes essential to provide resources to help meet the nutritional needs of these families.

The food distribution will continue on Tuesday at the Cahill Recreation Center from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., ensuring that more families can benefit from this initiative.
